The ancient Roman Catholic Church was to astronomers what the United States is to researchers* of marijuana, mushrooms, peyote, etc…
* And Golden-Rule Followers who partake in…
There are many within the “system” who worship their brittle and small-minded interpretation(s) of scripture more than making the effort to figure out reality based on facts, observation, experimentation, comparing notes, introspection, and prayer.
You don’t line up with their interpretation of scripture? Well, it’s off to prison with you, or the wearing of a scarlet “A,” or a brainwashing facility; maybe they’ll lighten their penalty on you—don’t count on it—if you just sign a form stating the idea the earth orbits the sun is immoral and illegal in nature, and how you’ve repented and now believe it’s a wrong-headed theory.
Wolves in sheep’s clothing. [Matthew 7:15-29] What was/is the fruit of their deeds? Was it the advancement of society? Was it the recognition of scientific information? How much effort did their accusers make to learn: the objective facts, observable phenomena, and mind-altering ramifications, of the astronomers’ findings?
Or was is it yet more scorn on religion due to scripture-worshippers, thus creating more pain for those who really do worship God?

Foods which God created
- It's such amazing irony that the areas of the U.S.
having strictest laws against plants deemed as "mind-altering"
are located in states reputed as having a sizeable
percentage of professing bible-believers,
(i.e. the so-called Bible Belt);
...and persons making wooden, myopic,
semi-inclusive interpretations of Scripture.
- One of these states, (Louisiana), has gone as far to ban,
(for human-consumption, but not for ornamental use),
an extensive laundry-list of plant-species,
(some of which have had Asian culinary-uses for millenia),
all because these MIGHT be psychoactive, "hallucinogenic"
if eaten in large amounts...
- If this isn't a first-rate example of
1 Timothy 4:1-3,
I don't know what is...

I'm Crying Too
In fact I'm not only crying I'm in a rage at times as well.
These sick evil hypocrites are not entering the kingdom and they are preventing those who are trying to enter! See Matthew 23 for a long list of other accurate portrayals of their character.
I will be among those who say that a pill or a plant is not the equivalent of being filled with the Holy Spirit, but it jump starts some people to be closer to God who were lukewarm or cold, and as you point out in 1 Timothy, Paul says that those who know God, and have tried various mind-expanding plants realize God put them here for us, for a multitude of reasons, including giving us insight.
Those who block us are headed for the trash heap! The burning trash heap with the fire that never goes out and the worm that never dies! I've tried over and over to convince many of them to repent, in a multitude of ways. But they are more in love with doing the opposite of our Lord, who listened to God and did not go around shoving his will on others. This is the exact thing they do, force their wills on others, at gun point, with human "laws," and imprisonment.
They think they will stand before God? Ha! They will shatter or they will be crushed!
