Competition Versus Teamwork
Teamwork Beats Competition!
The irony! There was a competition between teamwork and competition, and teamwork won! I compared, contrasted, and analyzed both teamwork and competition, and found that teamwork is better. (Please note this essay is about the larger aspects of society, not about sports. Although I must admit my favorite sport is frisbee, just plain throwing it for fun! Call me Ferdinand the Bull if you like! :-)
I wish other folks would realize that teamwork is better than competition.
Even in the face of failure, teamwork is best: finger pointing is laid to rest, and attention turns to lessons learned!
Leaders recognize that teamwork promotes positive actions. Here is my attempt to define teamwork.
Teamwork is the process of using your resources in tune with others. So the ongoing and end results are significantly better than the sum of accomplishments of the individuals.
Leaders know that competition is going to creep in and that you can't seem to get rid of it. But teamwork must take precedence. Teamwork should receive superior lip-service as well as real service.
Pros of Teamwork
With teamwork, everyone is working to the same goal. No one is trying to get in anyone else's way. While there may be some "stars" on the team, or positions with more respect, true team players give credit to the whole team, working as a unit.
Cons of Competition
In competition, the mind set of being "a winner or a loser" can cause participants to use their mental energy to seek to undermine others, instead of working towards the actual goal. This can even cause members of a team, in competition with other teams, to undermine their own teammates so they can get a better position in the next competition.
Competition often causes participants to ignore loftier goals, and the upcoming challenges beyond the current goals. In business and the larger society, this often takes the form of focusing on the lowest common denominator: money.
Be On Guard
Competition is still going to exist in the minds of some folks, it may pass through others' minds irregularly, and some people, not at all.
Be on guard against folks who bludgeon others in the name of teamwork, overworking them, or behaving in Non-Golden Rule Behaviors.
There's a difference between "No Competition vs. Competition" and "Teamwork vs. Competition"!
It's ironic to me that some folks who seem to tout competition, are also the ones working to avoid it, get rid of it, and create monopolies.
Dealing with Competition
Question: How do you handle someone who is competitive? It depends, and this article is not about that. I have written another article, "Defending Yourself Against the Offensive," that may be able to help if someone goes on the offensive against you.
Question: Do you think you can remove competition from anything or everything? Please excuse me for laughing.
Question: Do you think I am saying people who act competitively should be shamed? No. Looking to shame someone is almost the same as entering in to an "I am better than you" competition, which is the exact thing I am promoting against.
Conclusion
If you do God's will, you will find that over time, you have been in teamwork with God, yourself, and many other people who serve God, this is much better than being in competition with God or your future self. :-)

More Than Two Thirds Humans Prefer Pet When Stranded to a Human
A curiously contrasting news item has appeared.
Take this with a grain of salt, as they say... A marketing company called Packaged Facts, and a company selling cat & dog insurance (Petplan) have teamed up somehow to ask their customers some questions. The statistic that caught my eye must have been due to something like this...
Please note I generalized it beyond just "partner" or spouse to show I was mainly interested in pointing out the species.
The statistic that I noticed was that out of 1,105 people surveyed, more than two thirds would rather be on a desert island with a pet, than with their spouse.
I ain't no expert in desert island survival, but I'm thinking I'd rather have another human around than just a dog or a cat.
Speaking as a human, and with all due respect to cats and dogs, humans can do so much more; and in a tough situation like trying to make do on a desert island, one would think that with another human, the chances of not dying or going crazy are much better.

teamwork versus competition
I find it ironic that many conservative proponents of the "free market system" preach that competition is the key to economic success. They often quote Darwin's "Survival of the Fittest" mantra to suggest that competitive capitalism is natural law. Meanwhile, many of these capitalists refute Darwin's "Theory of Natural Selection" despite the fact that this theory basically describes the biological processes that provide healthy fruit and adaptable vegetables.
The truth is, however, that cooperation is the key to biological success, and not competition. Competition influences genetic variation, but cooperation is necessary for biological success. We can find a great example of this in compost.
Compost is the soil medium on the forest floor that contains decomposing leaves, roots, trunks, and other carbon-based organisms. Compost feeds the forest, and keeps the ecosystem alive. Compost itself is a microcosmic ecosystem of bacteria, fungi, insects, worms, and many other forms of life acting together and in equilibrium to feed the macrocosmic ecosystem. Without compost, we would all be dead, because there would be no forests, and food, and no oxygen.
So while many believe erroneously that competition is the foundation of success, it is really the cooperation of biological systems that keeps the capitalists alive.

Great Insight
Welcome sourmonkey!
It's ironic to me that so many of those who reject biological "evolution" are totally in favor of "Survival of the Fittest" when it comes to money. Kind of reminds me of a poll I wrote: Is Capitalism just "might makes right" using money instead of stones or bombs?
Like I wrote in the essay, I am convinced that teamwork is best and we will learn later of its rewards. Those who engage in constant competition will be very sad they lead the lives they did/do. The yeast of the Pharisees is hypocrisy!
This is all well and fine for us little people to observe and follow, but what's needed are the political leaders and captains of industry to stop working to flog as much money out of ________ as they can. And, of course, I don't mean teamwork in the sense of collusion. Oh, if only we could straighten them out!
Your second-to-last paragraph contains irony and even parts of prophecy.
