Declarations of Independence 2008-07-04 Update

Founding Documents, Fireworks, BBQ, & Beer!

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July celebration and it included reading our Declaration of Independence, our Constitution, the Amendments, and the Emancipation Proclamation!

This year was not a year of BBQ and beer for me. I hugely miss a great BBQ. I also must express some unhappiness with myself for only updating the documents in minor ways. Sorry.

Some may wonder, "Why didn't you publish this before the 4th, so we could read it on the 4th?" My answer is that I am doing this for fun. If I was being paid, then I could understand trying to coordinate that.

However, I am a regular citizen, a patriot, and as such, I read these documents on the 4th, as part of my celebrations. So that is when I also make updates, mull what I wrote over, and after that publish what I think is acceptable.

Some Progress Made

In any case, I was able to make some progress, so here it is. Below are the updates I made. If you would like to download the whole Declaration of Independence, including my updated wording, please visit the Declaration of Independence page and look for "Download".

Update 1

He has made judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has prevented judges from being impartial since he is the only one who hires, pays, and fires them.

Update 2

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.

He has worked to make the Military independent from our Civil Authority and superior to it.

The Military exists to protect citizens. It is not the other way around.

Update 3

For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:

For moving on to adjoining land, then telling us his borders have increased so much as to encompass us, and that we are now under his total control.

Conclusion

As before, I am open to your input. And I encourage you to download the latest version so you can update the language for yourself.
