IRS Extension Confusion

Even though computers ought to be used to simplify a multitude of processes, especially data entry and calculations, it seems our government is not able to understand.

Just because something goes from paper to the computer screen doesn’t mean it’s improved.

Today’s case-in-point is this screen shot from the IRS’s own web site. This is the page you get find when you are looking to file an extension, the link that brings us to this page says “Free Federal Extension is Available.”

Please notice, however, the page tells you to “simply click the ‘Create An Account’ button” although what they don’t tell you is that the button (link) IS NOT ON THE PAGE.

And instead of taking advantage of 1990’s web technology and making “Create An Account” an actual link you could click on to get there—an improvement over dead trees—that seems beyond the reaches of Microsoft technology, which this is probably based on. It also seems to be too tough to use simple URLs.
