Lucy
Hey Charlie Brown. I am here again to let you give the football a kick.
I'll set it up for you so you can kick it out of the park! It'll be sweet.
Charlie Brown
That's not what you've done in the past!
You always yank the ball away from me at the last moment!
Lucy
It's been your fault! You can't blame me for your mistakes!
[Mutters under her breath.]
(Your mistake for trusting me.)
But, in any case, I PROMISE to CHANGE.
Charlie Brown
Ha ha ha. You're going to CHANGE? Why should I believe you?
Every time you've been in charge of holding the ball, I end up being the one who lands on my back, in serious pain. Then you laugh at me for believing you.
Lucy
NO! BELIEVE ME.
I PROMISE TO CHANGE!
Just PUT ME IN CHARGE OF THE BALL again!

Who will hold the football this fall?
This little play just popped in my head.
It seems everyone is promising "change" in this fall season's US Presidential election campaign.
Perhaps you'll read this and think it shows how your favorite candidate is the best.
Perhaps you'll read this and think it's attacking your favorite candidate.
Maybe it's a "Rorschach Play". :-)

Nice
It's hard sometimes to trust people like that, but I think we should alaways give them another chance, maybe that's all they need to show us that they can change. Nice post. Thank you.

This definitely calls for "a
This definitely calls for "a mind with wisdom."
1) We need to be careful not to elevate ourselves to positions of overlords that need to have others prove to us they've changed. At least in our personal lives, not trying to get in to the various permutations of mass murderers, etc…
2) When Jesus advised Peter that we're to forgive people who ask us forgiveness, as many times per day as they ask, the implication I read into that is the person asking forgiveness is sincere, not just jerking us around to manipulate us. However, Jesus does seem to imply that even the people who work to manipulate us should be shown love, we should turn the other cheek, go with them the extra mile, that sort of stuff. Definitely humiliating at the time it happens since they're usually smug while it happens.
3) Politicians — those running for offices and positions of power over others — this is a different circumstance than forgiving your spouse who hogs the remote, or doesn't put the bills in the mail on time, or doesn't fill up the tank when it's nearly empty, etc…
The easiest way to sum up what you said, without me getting hung up on the wording, follow the Golden Rule: treat others the way you want to be treated. This is a Law of the Universe; because in time like a long bungee cord that's reached it's full length, plus some, all that comes back to us.
