I know this is not exactly breaking news at the moment, not that it was when he uttered it, but it's been jabbing me every day since I heard it, so it's finally time to write it down.

On the PBS NewsHour's December 1, 2009 show, Arizona Senator John McCain (Republican) said something that made me cringe. You might still be able to download the segment. You can fast forward to 2:55 to hear the section I quote below.

Gwen Ifil is describing the (then proposed) "surge" of troops in to Afghanistan and Pakistan. First there is a Democratic politician quoted, then McCain:

Ifil: Most Republicans have urged the President to send more troops. But Arizona Senator John McCain, Mr. Obama's opponent in last fall's election, offered a mixed review.

McCain: The way that you win wars is to break the enemy's will.

That is just absurd! Wasn't he tortured? Wasn't he against torture? What is the definition of torture? Isn't it to "break the enemy's will" and get them to spill some beans or convince them to be a double agent?

Not only that, but hasn't he learned anything these past 10 years? When it comes to religious extremists in particular, and even religious people in general, there is little hope to "break their will!"

Even Jesus, the Prince of Peace, advised us to not let evil break our will! That we shouldn't be afraid to die, instead of giving into thugs and bullies who try to get us to do wrong.

My straight talk to McCain and Obama is to get our military out of there! You are bankrupting us! You are creating more ill will than doing any good! You are not making us safer or protecting us. Fess up, who is the puppet master pulling your strings?

Withdraw, we must regroup and put our thinking caps on to come up with a better solution to dealing with religious extremists who think it's God's will to force their religion on the rest of us! We have it going on here in the U. S. of A.! Talk about having a log in our own eye, then going around trying to remove the specks from other's eyes! Sheesh.

As many of us have written, including many Christians. The best way to prevent our country from being taken over by Muslims or Christians or whatever religion, is to actually live up to our Founding Documents. We must steel our resolve to prevent our government from enforcing religious beliefs.

And ahem, this includes the Evil Religion of Hate against God's plants.
